ALVARO UGALDE & MARIO BOZA (Costa Rica) ENTRY TRAIL
Ugalde, a biologist, is considered the father of Costa Rican National Parks, who together with Mario Boza created a system of protecting fragile areas that now amounts to 25% of the entire nation including 30 national parks.

DAME JANE GOODALL (England) FOREST TRAIL
“The Rock Star of conservation.” More than 60 years of ethological field work, she has redefined species conservation to include the needs of local people and the environment. She spends more than 300 days a year traveling the world, urging everyone to take action on behalf of all living things and the planet we share. Her Roots and Shoots conservation program for children is now found in more than 70 nations and thousands of classrooms.

BERNHARD GRZIMEK (Germany) FOREST TRAIL
Zoo director, zoologist, author, editor, and conservationist. One of the key architects of nature conservation. In the 1950s he spoke of the massive extinction of species, the rapid loss of natural habitat, and the increasing demand for natural resources we would come to face. Promoting nature reserves and national parks, he is credited with helping to shape East Africa’s wildlife reserves, including the creation of the Serengeti.

GEORGE & JOY ADAMSON (UK & Austria) FOREST TRAIL Together they changed the collective attitude toward wildlife and nature with the telling of the couple’s relationship with an orphaned lion cub, Elsa, depicted in the “Born Free” series of books and movies. Both continued work in the field for decades, until both were murdered in separate incidents by the deadliest of all animals, humans.

DOUGLAS TOMPKINS–YVON CHOUINARD (USA) FOREST TR.
Two of the most generous of modern day conservationists. As the president of Patagonia Outfitters Chouinard has donated billions of dollars to combat the climate crises. The late Douglas Tompkins, close friend and fellow adventurer with Chouinard, was responsible along with his wife for securing and protecting hundreds of thousands of acres of fragile areas in Patagonia.

JOHN MUIR (SCOTLAND/USA) FOREST TRAIL
John Muir, also known as "John of the Mountains" and "Father of the National Parks", was an influential Scottish-American naturalist, author, environmental philosopher, botanist, zoologist, glaciologist, and early advocate for the preservation of wilderness in the United States of America.

JOHN AUDUBON (USA) PLATFORM
Audubon's lifelike drawings of birds helped people everywhere to see the wonders of nature in a new way, inspiring both concern and commitment to conservation.

CHICO MENDES (Brazil) PLATFORM
Francisco Alves ‘Chico’ Mendes, was a Brazilian rubber tapper, trade union leader and environmentalist. He fought to preserve the Amazon rainforest, and advocated for the human rights of Brazilian peasants and Indigenous
peoples. He was assassinated by a rancher on 22 December 1988.

STEVE IRWIN (Australia) WILDLIFE DIORAMA
One of the most watched wildlife hosts and adventurers, his followers and fans numbered in the tens of millions. His legacy includes a wife and two children who carry on the effort to raise awareness of the needs for conservation for all species. (Coming 2024.)

SIR DAVID ATTENBOROUGH (England) BENCH OASIS
English broadcaster, biologist, natural historian and author. He is best known for writing and presenting natural history documentaries forming a comprehensive survey of animal and plant life on Earth. Advocate for restoring planetary biodiversity, limiting population growth, switching to renewable energy, mitigating climate change, reducing meat consumption, and setting aside more areas for natural preservation.

GRETA THUNBERG (Sweden) BENCH OASIS
Swedish teenager sparked an international movement by protesting outside government buildings with a sign that read “School Strike for Climate” (now known as Fridays for Future.)

JACQUES COUSTEAU (France) BENCH OASIS
Cousteau's legacy includes more than 120 television documentaries, more than 50 books, and an environmental protection foundation with 300,000 members. Created a new kind of scientific communication "divulgationism", a simple way of sharing scientific concepts widely employed today.

ANSEL ADAMS (USA) BENCH OASIS
The most important landscape photographer of the 20th century. The popularity of his work has continued to grow. His most important works were devoted to what appeared to be the country’s remaining fragments of untouched wilderness, especially in national parks and other protected areas of the U.S. West. An ardent conservationist, Adams served as a director of the Sierra Club from 1934 to 1971.

DAVID SUZUKI
(Canada) BENCH OASIS
Recognized as a world leader in sustainable ecology and has received numerous awards for his work, including a UNESCO prize for science and a UN Environment Program medal. Companion of the Order of Canada.

WANGARI MAATHAI (Kenya) BENCH OASIS
Kenyan born Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Introduced community-based tree planting, which blossomed into the Green Belt Movement. The first woman in eastern Africa to earn a doctorate degree.

SYLVIA EARLE (USA) BENCH OASIS
Marine biologist, oceanographer, explorer, author, and lecturer. The first female chief scientist of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. A part of Ocean Elders, dedicated to protecting the ocean and its wildlife. Often called "Her Deepness" or "The Sturgeon General".

HENRY THOREAU (USA) BENCH OASIS
A naturalist, essayist, poet, and philosopher from the USA. A leading transcendentalist, he is best known for his book Walden, a reflection upon simple living in natural surroundings, and his essay "Civil Disobedience", an argument for disobedience to an unjust state. His writings on natural history and philosophy, are the sources of modern environmentalism.

JADAV PAYENG (India) BENCH OASIS
An environmental activist and forestry worker, popularly known as the Forest Man of India. For several decades, he has planted and tended trees on a sandbar of the river Brahmaputra turning it into a forest reserve.

The reserve’s “Trails of Remembrance” and numerous oasis areas have been named in honor of environmental heroes such as Jane Goodall, Bernhard Grzimek, David Attenborough, Greta Thunberg, Jacques Cousteau and others.
